A packed ARMA (Association of Residential Managing Agents) annual conference, supported by Deacon, was the first audience to hear from Secretary of State Sajid Javid about government intentions to regulate managing agents.
Acknowledging that his ARMA audience probably represented the “good guys”, he said that: “Some industry experts claim that, every year, British households are overcharged by as much as £1.4 billion”. You can see the full text of his speech here.
At present, managing agents are not government regulated. ARMA has established a self-regulatory scheme to set standards in management.
If you have any experience of good or bad management and would like to have your say, you can, through the new government consultation. This call for evidence lasts for 6 weeks from 18 October 2017 until 29 November 2017 and you are encouraged to respond by completing an online survey.
UPDATE April 2019: See the outcome of the consultation HERE.
UPDATE September 2020: See our report on proposals for wider proposals for leasehold reform HERE.
