Love it or hate it, Hallowe’en has travelled across the Atlantic as another annual festival of buying a lot of disposable goods and eating food of dubious nutritional value.
One can only pity the parents who have to take children full of E numbers home after their Trick or Treat outings!
Often, a lot of time and effort goes into their costumes and it can be hard to refuse to take part in the game, but do be careful about who you let into the building.
Once let in by one resident, people are free to wander at leisure. So do alert residents to make sure they escort little devils and demons off the premises, and ideally keep them company if they go from flat to flat.
We’d suggest that unaccompanied minors or adult Trick or Treaters really should be denied entry to your building.
Hallowe’en etiquette says that Trick or Treaters should be accompanied by parents and only knock on doors where there is a pumpkin or similar symbol on display, so it’s worth reminding residents that putting one in their window is inviting callers.
If you have elderly neighbours make sure they are aware of modern Hallowe’en practices and that they can simply ignore callers.
